TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
For the last four years, our parttime home on wheels has been a Ford Transit camper van. Small, simple, and incredibly reliable. It took us on countless adventures across Australia and played a huge role in shaping our love for life on the road.
What started as weekend getaways slowly grew into something much bigger, and over time we found ourselves dreaming about what it would be like to travel Australia full-time. Unfortunately, after recently breaking down, our trusty van made it clear that it might not be up for the kind of long-term, remote travel we now had our hearts set on. That moment pushed us to make a decision we had been building toward for years: it was time to upgrade.
Every year since we first started this journey, we’ ve attended the Victorian Caravan & Camping Supershow. It became a tradition – walking through displays, stepping inside beautifully designed vans, and imagining the day we’ d finally be ready to buy one ourselves. This year, that dream became a reality. Instead of just browsing, we were there with purpose. We took our time, revisiting different layouts and carefully considering what would actually suit our lifestyle, not just what looked good on display.
Owning a van beforehand turned out to be one of the best things we could have done. It taught us exactly what we needed and, just as importantly, what we didn’ t. We knew we wanted a van with a built-in shower and toilet so we could stay off-grid comfortably for longer periods. A larger water tank and plenty of solar power were high on the list for the same reason. Space also became a priority – we were ready to move on from our short wheelbase camper and into something that felt a bit more like a home.
