LETTERS FROM THE ROAD
MANAGER FROM HELL?
I read your article on caravan park rules( GoRV # 109) and, generally speaking, I don’ t have an issue with most rules as most are common sense, and several would have come about because of the entitled sods who spoil it for everybody else. And yes, some are just plain stupid.
However, on the other side of the coin are the park managers who have to‘ police’ the rules. There are some great managers out there who are a credit to the industry, and there are also some who are overbearing and out of control. A couple of years ago, we went to a recently refurbished / redesigned park and when I booked, I advised that we had a motorhome and a small car on a trailer; no problem, they said. I advised that on a wider site, we could fit our vehicle and awning, and the trailer left to right, while on a narrow and deeper site, the trailer would run at right angles across the back of the motorhome. No problem, they said.
On arrival, the manager said we would not fit it all on the site as there were new clear spacing rules. I suggested we get sorted and then make a decision. So we parked the motorhome, put the awning out and the trailer alongside, and along she came to tell us we couldn’ t have it like that. She whipped out a tape measure – clearance had to be 900mm to the site boundary, and we were about 100mm short. As the concrete slab was wide enough, I suggested that we reshuffle the trailer to have one wheel up on the edge of the concrete, and apparently no vehicles were allowed on the slab, not even a trailer wheel.
