TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
Again and again, fellow travellers have spoken about the Victorian riverside town of Cohuna to us. Tucked along the banks of Gunbower Creek, a destination known for kayaking, fishing, birdwatching and towering red gum forests, it sounded like the perfect mix of nature and relaxation. When we finally planned a weekend escape there, Cohuna exceeded every expectation.
Our home for the weekend was the Cohuna Waterfront Holiday Park, where we booked a powered waterfront site. The creek stretched out before us, shimmering beneath the afternoon sun, creating the kind of peaceful outlook travellers dream about.
Mornings quickly became our favourite time of day. With fresh coffee in hand, we watched the sun rise over the water, casting soft reflections across the creek. Evenings were just as magical, with glowing sunsets mirrored in the still water. Travelling with our dog Twyla is an important part of every trip we take, so the park’ s pet-friendly atmosphere made the experience even more enjoyable.
One of Cohuna’ s greatest charms is how easily it can be explored on foot. We love destinations where you can park the van and wander everywhere at your own pace, and Cohuna delivers exactly that. Throughout the weekend we explored the town’ s cafés, bakeries and local businesses, discovering a welcoming country atmosphere.
One evening, we enjoyed dinner at The Bower Tavern, a relaxed local favourite with both indoor and outdoor seating. Travelling with Twyla, the outdoor area suited us perfectly. Families, locals and fellow travellers filled the tables, enjoying the warm weather and easy-going hospitality that country towns do so well.
On our second morning, we wandered through the riverside parklands beside the caravan grounds. Families gathered near the swimming beach while children raced between the enormous playground and skateboard park, making it easy to see why Cohuna is such a popular destination for family getaways.
