ALISON’ S FIRST FAREWELL TOUR
We drove around Genoa and I was shocked. All we saw was a closed service station, a closed shop and a pub with a motel. We drove through the area and saw cows, paddocks and farmland. Peter told me that the highway used to go through Genoa, but they moved it and it was goodbye to Genoa.
We drove to Malacoota but didn’ t stop there – we thought Genoa deserved our support, so decided to go back and check out the pub. I don’ t drink beer, and they didn’ t have any wine. But I had one of the best pre-made lemon, lime and bitters ever! It’ s a great little pub!
One night there and it was time to drive to Cann River because it had a dump point! We set-up in an exshire park, which had water but no power. No problem – the sun was shining and being in the van without power isn’ t a problem when the sun is shining.

We went for a walk into town, a lovely place. There was a craft exhibition in what was an old church. I had made a winter baby blanket for a friend of one of our kids who had just had her first baby. I had some wool left over, so happily donated it to them.
There was one really tacky thing that happened here, and it’ s not the fault of the town or the people who clean the amenities. The day we arrived, there was heaps of toilet paper available. Three toilets, each had a toilet paper dispenser with five rolls in it. I went just before we left the next morning and realised, too late, that there was not one piece of toilet paper in the holder. I listened to other women talking and it was the same in the other two as well. So I rang Peter and he came over, into the ladies, and gave me the essential roll. Another reason to always have your phone with you!
