FAMILY CULTURE
It begins in the reception area. It’ s warm, bright and welcoming. And sharp eyes might notice the bronze RVMAP People’ s Choice award proudly on display. This is an industry award resulting from a survey of many caravan buyers. The fact that Hilltop, out of a sea of manufacturers, scooped this honour should tell you something about the company culture.
That first Hotham ultimately lead to Hilltop securing a Victorian dealership. The ball was officially rolling.
” Gradually, our vans developed a good name and customers began to recommend us,” Dam said.
Before too long, other dealerships around the country were signing on. And now, Hilltop even has dealership representation in New Zealand. Not bad for a company that started from such humble beginnings.
Before the move to Mickleham, Hilltop Caravans was spread across five different factories in the Campbellfield area. While the team made it work, it wasn’ t the most efficient way to run their business.
The new factory, however, has allowed them to centralise all operations under the one roof, increasing efficiency while allowing them to upscale production when the time is right.
But for now, Hilltop is happy to continue building 11 or 12 vans per week. That’ s their sweet spot.
Three production lines run side by side. The chassis comes in one end, with the van incrementally moving forwards towards the main roller door as work is completed.
