2. ROUTINE
Have a routine for setting up and packing up. Checklists are very helpful. We have an outside one and an inside one. Bruce does the outside, Marg the inside, and we both work through that in a set order, which becomes habit, making sure everything is done. We then double check to see what each of us has done.
A last minute walk around the van, once hitched, guarantees hatches and windows are closed, all leads and hoses are packed up and the hitch is right. We have all heard those stories about driving off and ripping out the power lead, or leaving the handbrake on and wondering why you’ re not moving properly. Join the hose ends together using the fittings you have so you don’ t leave them behind on a tap. Roll the cords neatly so they are easy to spread out when you arrive at the next site.

When you’ re setting up, stabiliser legs work better at a slight angle, instead of rigidly upright.
Make sure your awning is well anchored, and be prepared to take it in if there is threatening weather. If it’ s a stormy or windy day, and you plan to be out sightseeing for the day, it may be a good idea to take in the awning before you go out. Coming home to see the awning ripped is not a good feeling.
