We called into D’ Arenburg Winery, not for the wine but to see the Dr Seuss Exhibition. Wow, that was a real treat and a reminder of our kids’ and grandkids’ early days!
Our next stop was Kadina Showgrounds. You have to book in at the tourist info centre, which is fine, plus they give you a compostable bag so you can put your compost items into a special compost bin. The showgrounds are within walking distance of Kadina, which is great.

We spent a bit of time in Moonta Bay, well known for its relationship with Cornwall and the Cornish Pastie. The link to Cornwall is through copper, which when discovered in Moonta Bay, drew miners from Cornwall. You can’ t let them go hungry so the Cornish pastie came too. Mind you, the copper wasn’ t found by humans – just ask the wombats in the gardens!
By now we were worried about the price of fuel. But that wasn’ t the main worry: our car had developed an intermittent rattle, which was more frequent and louder. So we made a very hard decision to head home. If the car needed serious work, we wanted our usual mechanics to do it.
It was a tough decision to make, and the next decision was how to get home. Go back the way we had come, or go another way?
