Since I last tapped out some words for this page, we’ ve seen another caravan manufacturer go under, the latest in a string of closures brought about by the ever-worsening cost of living, low consumer confidence, and a fuel situation that looks set to worsen, especially given oil exports from the Middle East were cinched tighter in mid September, with ramifications yet to be felt here.

Before I get too high on my horse, the closure to which I’ m referring – Australian Off-Road – is the latest in a string of high-profile liquidations within this industry. On September 15, the company posted a statement in which it declared the end had arrived, pointing the finger at cheaper imports in a price-driven market, and the costs of doing business on the Sunshine Coast, among other grievances. Meanwhile, it appears that yet more caravan customers in Australia have probably lost their deposits.
