TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
Have you ever been driving home from a holiday when something catches your eye and you immediately think,“ We need to come back here one day?”
That’ s exactly what happened to us on the way home from an Easter getaway. As we crossed a bridge, we spotted a gorgeous old pub sitting beside the river, complete with a huge outdoor area and beautiful views. The town was Bridgewater on Loddon, and we both said that we needed to visit the town one day.
Just a short drive from Melbourne, Bridgewater on Loddon makes an easy weekend escape or a great stopover when travelling through central Victoria. We booked into Bridgewater Caravan Park, where we booked a slab site overlooking the river. We also hired a fire pit for the evening, looking forward to relaxing beside the flames and enjoying the great outdoors.
After setting up, we wandered into town to explore the local shops. We picked up a fresh sourdough loaf from the bakery for dinner in the van and visited the local nursery, which had not only plenty of beautiful plants but a gift shop filled with tempting finds.
One of our favourite discoveries was a little veggie stall on the main street. It operated on an honesty-box system, where you could pick up pumpkins for just $ 2 while supporting local growers – a simple touch that really captured the friendly community spirit.
By lunchtime, it was time to visit the pub that had first caught our attention. Sitting right on the river, it arguably has some of the best views in town. Travelling with a dog can sometimes make finding somewhere to eat difficult, but the pub welcomed Twyla with open arms. We entered through the side gate and were free to choose a spot anywhere in the huge garden. With a cold beer and the river beside us, we settled in for lunch. We both ordered chicken parmigiana, and it certainly didn’ t disappoint.
