COPS AND CARAVANS
This one was memorable for a couple of reasons. First, it’ s how I met Marty Ledwich, whose articles have been has been instrumental in the success of GoRV. Second, it helped to shine a spotlight on an important issue at the time.
You see, the police had begun a more serious approach to enforcing the rules concerning safe towing. Marty had written a yarn about a roadside caravan check police operation for a different publication. Meanwhile, Everything Caravan & Camping saw an opportunity to involve the same police in an educational weigh-in for the public at Melbourne Leisurefest. Members of the public brought their van in, had it weighed, and discussed the results
Marty Ledwich joined the team early and has played an important role since.
with the police in terms of whether their tow vehicle was suitable.
This moment has stuck in my mind over the years because it demonstrated a proactive approach to a common problem. It was a great example of the the public working with police to avoid issues before they became problems.
