RV NUMBERS UP

RV production in Australia increased by 16 per cent in March , compared to the same period last year , according to figures released in early May by the Caravan Industry Association of Australia . A total of 2584 RVs were manufactured for the month , which equates to 112.3 vans constructed per working day , up from 101.2 in the previous year . Production is 6.9 per cent higher year to date compared to the previous year , with 6256 units produced in the first quarter of this year . This makes it the strongest year-to-date figures recorded for local RV production .
On a ‘ rolling annual basis ’, 24,333 units have been produced , a 38.1 per cent increase . Caravan trailer imports , meanwhile , declined by 12 per cent in March , compared to the same period last year , with 1260 RVs imported into Australia .
On a year-to-date basis , however , caravan trailer imports are up 21 per cent , with 4815 trailers arriving on our shores . Further , the ‘ rolling annual ’ total of trailer imports reached 19,760 , a 58 per cent increase on the same period in 2021 .
According to the figures , provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics ( International Trade Data ), Victoria ’ s market share of caravan imports has grown , with 34 per cent of all imports now arriving into the state , a six per cent increase .
Queensland boasts the largest volume of imports , though it has decreased to 45 per cent , the first time Queensland ’ s market share has dipped below 50 per cent since 2015 .
