TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
The next day , we headed into the CBD and visited the popular Rundle Mall . We discovered the old Blackebys Sweets Shop , which was founded in 1906 . Imagine a scene like Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory , where you have all your old favourite lollies as a child – this place is worth visiting . We then walked the candy off by visiting the Riverbank Trail Loop , which provides amazing views of the city , Adelaide ’ s Art Precinct , and parklands .
On our last day , we took a short drive to Hahndorf . Settled by 19th-century Lutheran migrants , Hahndorf is known for its original German-style architecture , shops , and artisanal food . We learned that the Hahndorf Academy is home to the German Migration Museum , tracing the local history of the town .
For lunch , we sat outside the German Inn , a two-storey 1863 hotel that has exposed stone walls and a wood-panelled ceiling . We ordered a German beer stein and a mixed grill that had a range of different traditional German meats .
After lunch , we walked the street to check out the variety of stores that sold items including German products , such as cuckoo clocks and beer steins . If you visit Hahndorf , we ’ d recommend you pop into Hahndorf Udder Delights Cheese Cellars to pick yourself some cheese – you can ’ t miss the place with its huge yellow cow out the front !
Our quick getaway to Adelaide was such a memorable experience – it felt like we had visited a few different countries in a couple of days !
