If you ever needed another reason to visit Charters Towers , Qld , you now have one : the unique monument known as ‘ The World ’ has won the gold award for Best Monument / Memorial , and silver for Best Landmark Sculture , in the Australian Street Art Awards .
Standing over 7m tall , The World is indeed a striking monument that details important slivers of Charters ’ Towers rich history .
Part of the town ’ s Goldtower Central precinct , this stainless steel structure takes on the sun ’ s rays , showing off the emblazoned bronzed continents of the world . It was built and gifted to the township as part of its 150-year celebration .
The Australian Street Art Awards recognise the best street art in the country . Charters Towers ’ 80m Wall of History received a finalist nomination in the Best Mega Mural category .
“ Every Australian needs to visit Charters and make sure they check in at our World and get up close to the Wall of History ,” Paul McIver , the owner of Goldtower Central , said .
