TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
The Big Potato was constructed in 1979 to promote Robertson ’ s famous red soil potatoes when the industry was a big part of the town . Over time , the landmark was maintained by locals , attracting tourists to the area .
For a light lunch , we crossed the road to Robertson Public House & Kitchen , sharing a large bowl of chips , washed down with cold beers . While chatting to locals over our meal , we were advised to make sure we check out The Old Cheese Factory .
The Old Cheese Factory is now converted into a range of market stalls , a lolly shop , a cafe and garden nursery . You ’ re sure to find something for everyone here .
Less than 15 minutes ’ drive from Robertson is Belmore Falls , where the waterfall plunges with three drops into the Barrengarry Creek . The falls are worth the short drive ; however , dogs need to stay in the vehicle . We took turns walking to the lookout that was only minutes from the carpark .
Our last stop in town was the famous Robertson Pie Shop , which has been making savoury and sweet pies fresh daily on the premises since 1961 . We sat outside under the trees , where I enjoyed a pepper pie and Adam ordered the apple pie with cream .
Robertson may be a small town with a Big Potato , but it also has a big heart . We ' d recommend visiting the Robertson if you ' re in the area .
