TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
Our next stop was the Eden Killer Whale Museum . The building was originally built to house the skeleton of the orca , ‘ Old Tom ’, and to tell the story of this extraordinary whale , and other killer whales of Eden . The museum is worth a visit to learn about the local marine history . We got to ‘ meet ’ Old Tom and were lucky enough to have a private tour of the lighthouse . It was interesting to learn of Eden ’ s history and local marine artifacts . Unfortunately , but understandably , the museum was not dog-friendly .
As the day was warm , we then headed to the Aslings Beach Rock Pool , at the southern end of Aslings Beach . We took our runners off and had a splash in the cool water , with the waves lapping against the rock pool walls . Twyla also had a dip in the water and loved frolicking in the sand .
After all this exploring , we were getting hungry , so we found a local fish and chip shop and ordered lunch . We then took our paper-wrapped seafood to the Mary MacKillop Museum , where we enjoyed our lunch in the car park before heading in to visit the museum . Mary MacKillop is recognised as Australia ’ s first saint and was canonised by Pope Benedict XVI in Rome in 2010 for her lifetime dedication to helping others , especially children .
Two things would have made our Eden visit even better : having more time to see the sights , and to have been there in whale season . If you ’ re looking for eden , you will find it here in this town of the same name .
