Twenty years ago , when Concept Caravans was still just a concept , three men got together : Keir Smith , and brothers Steve and Bruno Caruso . Steve had an idea for a new caravan manufacturing business and , with Keir ’ s caravan sales background , and the Carussos ’ background in manufacturing , he knew they could make a real go of it .

That was 2004 . On September 3 of that year , they built their first van : a single-axle pop-top with a front kitchen known as the Ascot . That first Ascot , with its hand-built furniture , was the style of the time . While the Ascot remains in the Concept range , it ’ s fair to say it ’ s been updated a lot since then .

Now employing over 180 people , and with nine different factories and four different businesses under their umbrella , Concept Caravans has become one of the most consequential caravan manufacturers in Australia . For Keir Smith , it ’ s the company ’ s people that has made the difference .
