TANGO FALLOUT
Over the next few months , Kayla and Calvin came up with the design of their van as they dreamed of the day they ’ d be able to hitch it up .
“ In the meantime , my husband went overseas for work . We chose the colours over FaceTime at Tango and that was that . Van ordered !”
In May 2024 , the couple paid another $ 5000 towards their van . “ We were getting excited now !” Kayla said . “ We were told it would be ready in June , as we wanted it ready by the end of the financial year . We were told to pay the final amount so that it would be all done , ready for picking it up and towing it away . We then paid the final amount of $ 62,000 . We thought paying was doing the right thing . One thing we have learnt from this is , don ’ t trust everyone .”
HIT BY DELAY
Kayla and Calvin were suddenly told that handover of their van would be delayed until July . Because Calvin would again be overseas for work , Kayla asked if they could instead pick it up on August 9 .
“ They agreed … but we were then told it won ’ t be ready by the 9th . I requested that we take a walk through our almost-finished van on the 9th . They agreed to this . We called and met them at the manufacturer . We walked through the van and to say we were excited would be an understatement ! I now feel sick knowing that they knew we weren ’ t going to get our van as we were walking through it .”
The next day , Kayla sent a text to Tango staff to thank them . No response .
After learning they ' d lost $ 70K to Tango , Kayla was so upset at the thought of not having a van to show for their money that they purchased this van , pictured here under construction . It cost an additional $ 80K but , as Kayla says , at least they ' ll still be able to take the trips they had planned .
