RV FEATURE
INTEGRATED COMPONENTS
These are difficult to detect visually . It will come down to explanation or research into the system . Having all the various components of the PMS working together is critical . For example , be worried if you see one brand of DC-DC charger installed beside a different brand of AC-DC charger – have these been tested to be compatible in charging your battery ? Many times , they are not .
EXPANDABILITY
This is also a key aspect of any PMS . The average length of ownership of an RV is around 17 years and , during this journey , many travellers will want to tweak and optimise their van ’ s electrical system . Knowing that you can add additional features without having to scrap various components is a great value proposition when choosing a van .
Lithium batteries have their own internal battery management system .
For example you may want to integrate gas cylinder level detection or , say , a tyre pressure monitoring system or more power from solar .
SAFETY
Lastly and very importantly , a PMS needs to offer safety . Systems that offer an extended warranty ( such as two to five years ) from well-known and reliable brands can help to ensure your family and your holiday does not become headline news for the wrong reason .
A PMS must contain a range of protection mechanisms , such as fusing and low voltage disconnect . to name just a few .
