RV FEATURE
As some of the systems have become more complex , so too has the terminology , so let ’ s demystify this from the outset . Two key components are a power management system ( PMS ) and a battery management system ( BMS ), each serving different but crucial purposes in managing power within RVs .
A PMS encompasses a suite of multiple 12V products designed to control , monitor , and optimise the distribution and usage of AC and 12V power throughout an RV . It ensures that all connected devices operate efficiently , safely and harmoniously , handling tasks like power conversion , load distribution , and system monitoring .
In contrast , a BMS is specifically integrated within the casing of lithium batteries . It is an electronic system focused on protecting the battery cells by managing the charging and discharging processes , monitoring temperature and voltage , and ensuring the longevity and safety of the battery . While the PMS oversees the overall power architecture of an RV , the BMS concentrates exclusively on maintaining the health and performance of lithium batteries .
To better understand a quality PMS , I have explained below some of the key components to understand and look out for :
RELIABILITY
Reliability in a PMS is essential for ensuring that families can enjoy their holidays without interruptions . A reliable PMS effectively manages the RV ' s electrical systems to prevent issues such as power outages or equipment failures that could disrupt the comfort and convenience of a trip .
It ensures that all electrical devices , from lighting to refrigerators and air-conditioners , operate consistently and efficiently . A key thing to look for to ensure reliability is quality in the installation . Look for a clean , professional installation .
