TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
As someone who ’ s always been a sucker for quirky , larger-than-life tourist attractions — think Big Banana , Big Koala and the like — I couldn ' t resist when I heard there was a Big Codfish on display in Tocumwal , NSW . Naturally , that became one of our recent destinations to visit .
Tocumwal , located on the Murray River , is a charming town with a mix of quirky landmarks , rich history , and plenty of outdoor fun . The Big Codfish is hard to miss as it ’ s located in the Tocumwal Foreshore Park , which provided a perfect spot for a photo op to add to my growing collection of ‘ Big Things ’ photos . Known by the locals as ‘ The Big Fish ’, this landmark was originally erected in 1968 at the old swimming pool but was later moved to the foreshore , where it continues to be popular .
After our photo , we wandered across the road to the local bakery to grab a few delicious baked goods and then enjoyed a leisurely lunch overlooking the river . The park has everything you could need : picnic spots , playgrounds , toilets and a walking track that hugs the riverbank . We took our dog , Twyla , for a stroll along the track and stumbled upon a truss lift train bridge . As we approached it , a friendly local runner advised that the trains don ’ t run on Sundays , so we were free to walk across it and check it out . Built in 1895 , this bridge provided some great photo opportunities .
