TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
After breakfast , we took a short drive into the middle of town to explore the town of Riddells Creek . Luckily for us , the monthly farmers ' market was on . It was a true country experience , selling local wares and produce , and chickens and hay bales . We grabbed a second coffee as we wandered through the market , including some homemade dog treats for our dog , Twyla .
After the market , we walked over to the Walter J Smith Reserve , a beautiful spot to take in the scenery and enjoy a peaceful stroll . The reserve lake was quiet , with some local kids fishing . The trail of the reserve led us to the historic Riddells Creek Rail Bridge . The bridge , designed by W . E . Bryson was built in 1859 , is an architectural gem , and it provided a perfect photo opportunity !
One of the must-see things in Riddells Creek is the infamous flock of geese . No one knows where they came from , but these 60-plus geese are now a local legend . They regularly hold up traffic as they waddle across the road in true comedic fashion . If you ' re ever in the area , it ' s worth checking them out – they might chase you if you ' re not careful !
Before heading home , we made one last stop at the local bakery to try the famous local cheese and bacon pie . It was so fresh and delicious that it fell apart as I ate it – absolutely worth every crumb .
If you ’ re unsure about giving Hipcamp a try , I can honestly say that our experience was fantastic , and we will be booking more trips like this in the future . There are so many pet-friendly campsites out there to explore ! And , if you find yourself driving through Riddells Creek , be sure to slow down – and watch out for the geese !
