TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
It was a friend’ s recommendation that first led us to Victor Harbor, a coastal town in South Australia brimming with charm and plenty of room to roam. Nestled on the Fleurieu Peninsula, Victor Harbor turned out to be the perfect seaside retreat for our recent holiday – and one we wished had lasted just a little longer.
We booked our stay at the Victor Harbor Holiday & Cabin Park, a welcoming and pet-friendly holiday park that has something for everyone. Though we were only there for a couple of nights, we quickly realised we could’ ve happily spent several more.
Our first stop was the local visitor centre, where the friendly staff pointed out the best things to do around town. We wandered through the local shops, explored the main street, and treated ourselves to a late bakery breakfast. If you ' re in town, don’ t miss the bee sting pastries – rich, oversized, and delicious.
One of Victor Harbor’ s signature experiences is the iconic horsedrawn tram that crosses the causeway to Granite Island, home to a wild penguin colony. Sadly, it wasn’ t running during our visit – something we’ ll have to tick off next time. Since Granite Island isn’ t pet-friendly( for good reason – the wildlife is precious and protected), Adam and Twyla stayed while I ventured across on foot.
The walk around Granite Island takes about 45 minutes and offers stunning coastal views. Giant boulders, dramatic rocky shores, and the rhythmic crash of waves create a raw, natural beauty that’ s hard to match. I didn’ t spot any penguins, seals, or dolphins on my visit, but the landscape alone made the walk unforgettable, so much so that I returned the next morning to do it as my sunrise walk.
