As I type, we’ re days away from the official onset of winter. Here in Victoria, it’ s feeling every inch the typical southern winter. Cold mornings, even colder nights. For every reader preparing to head north, I can’ t say I blame you. That’ s the beauty of the RV lifestyle, after all.

I recently met a lovely couple who had just purchased a new van with the intention of joining the ranks of the grey nomads. They’ d slept in their van on a particularly cold Victorian night and had never been happier with their decision to fit a diesel heater. When I asked how it performed against that brutal cold, they told me that although the heater struggled a little, they’ d have almost frozen without it.

Mental note: when I buy my next van, make sure it has a diesel heater! The older I get, the more the cold disagrees with me, but that said, the southern states have a particular charm in winter and remaining south while others head north can be a particularly budget-friendly way to travel. You just have to rug up, put on a beanie, and crank the Eberspacher! Thank goodness for diesel heaters, that’ s all I can say.
