THE MAIDEN VOYAGE
The timely delivery of their caravan meant that the family was able to make this trip the van’ s maiden voyage, named‘ Goldie’ by their seven-year-old, Avery.
“ We had been playing on the idea of a name that represented the idea of a ' new day ', or new chapter in our lives, such as Dawn or Sunny, particularly given our van ' s colour and the fact that she is a‘ Sunray '. We unanimously agreed that Goldie fitted the bill, representing the bright, optimistic dawn of a new time for us as a family,” Andrea said.
“ The timing of our trip meant that the van ' s first service had to occur while we were travelling on a tight time frame, and the team at the Caravan Accident & Repair Centre in Port Macquarie did a thorough job – they were brilliant! This enabled us to get to the Koala Hospital in town for koala-mad Avery – what a fantastic morning learning about the work they do with sick and injured koalas. And, of course, another stuffed koala was added to the collection!
“ The weather around Byron Bay for Bluesfest couldn ' t have been more perfect, with 26-degree days and not a single drop of rain to be had. The convenience of camping onsite was a stroke of brilliance, and getting in and out was a breeze. Our site at the festival was 100m from the south entry gate, meaning we could pop back and forth to the caravan as needed and fall into bed as soon as the fun was done each evening. We had everything we needed in our van to make our time off-grid at Bluesfest comfortable and enjoyable – hot showers for everyone each day, more battery power than we knew what to do with, and enough food and entertainment to keep our bellies, minds and hearts full.
“ The festival itself is an indescribable experience, a coming together of over 100,000 likeminded people, all with the same intention to relax, have fun and enjoy as many different artists as their legs will carry them to.
