DOUBLE-CHECK YOUR ROUTE
A GPS is not necessarily correct all of the time. You should keep a paper map backup, and use it. You may have already experienced being taken down a wrong road, courtesy of your GPS, only to find yourself in an awkward spot, unable to turn around. And when you have 8m worth of caravan on the back, that is never a good thing.
SHOP LOCALLY
Shop for local and in-season produce. Use farm gate stalls. A great example of this can be seen in Tasmania, where many outlets are available in summer months.
Roadside stalls offer all sorts of fresh produce, from berries to eggs, bread and even ice cream. In Queensland, you’ ll find stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables such as avocados and passionfruit. The produce is always fresher and cheaper, and you’ re supporting a local grower.
NEW FRIENDS
Be open to making new friends along the way. Some people you will meet and click with straight away, and you’ ll stay friends for a long time. These days, it’ s easy to keep in touch. Be open and friendly, and team up for a drink or a local pub meal for a night of fun.
