Underneath the van mattered just as much. Australia taught us quickly that suspension isn’ t optional; it determines how you feel at the end of the day. Our van runs a Cruisemaster Level 4 XT air suspension system suited to mixed terrain, paired with all-terrain tyres that behave predictably across gravel, dirt and bitumen. The DO35 hitch lets the van move naturally behind the tow vehicle. Beneath it sits a truss chassis with a flat floor for extra storage, Raptor-coated for stone and dust protection. Combined with an aluminium frame and honeycomb
floor, the structure stays strong without excess weight. The BOS stabiliser legs felt unusual at first, but now they’ re second nature, each pipe length made for a specific job.
Because we live full-time on the road and often head out bush for weeks at a time, water capacity mattered. Australis helped us work through the best setup: 300L of fresh water across three tanks, and 200L of grey water storage in two chassis-mounted tanks. We added an instant hot water system, an Enviro water-saver valve, a fast-fill isolation setup and a grey-water bypass. And instead of a cassette toilet, we chose a Tiny by Separett, far easier to manage and no more dump stations … because who actually wants to go to dump stations!
