The developer of a new safetyfocused navigation app is calling for members of the caravanning public to test it.

TowNav Australia was developed specifically for trucks, caravans and other towing combinations travelling throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Unlike standard navigation apps, TowNav considers the realities of operating a larger vehicle. Planned features include warnings and safer-route recommendations for steep inclines and descents, unsuitable U-turns, low clearances, restricted or unsuitable roads, dangerous weather, road closures and locations where a long vehicle could become boxed in.

TowNav, which is expected to be available to the public early next year, will also feature‘ Freddy’ as well as a range of selectable copilot personalities to make navigation feel more personal, while ensuring that all genuine safety warnings remain calm, clear and serious.

Before TowNav becomes a public subscription service, a small number of experienced truck drivers, caravanners and others who are travelling Australia are needed to independently test the app in real-world conditions.

The aim is to receive honest feedback, identify improvements and ensure TowNav is as safe, accurate and easy to use as possible before the public is asked to subscribe.
