You can generally transport two standard 8.5kg LPG cylinders under the small-load exemption; three may exceed the 62.5L combined water-capacity threshold depending on overall combined volume, so check each cylinder’ s stamped WC and always secure them upright with sealing plugs fitted, out of the passenger space.

Do not carry an LPG cylinder larger than 9kg in a car. Secure cylinders upright on the vehicle floor, keep the windows open for cross-flow ventilation, do not place cylinders in an enclosed boot, and remove them from the vehicle as soon as possible. An open ute tray or trailer is preferred.

Do not carry an LPG cylinder larger than 9kg in an enclosed vehicle. Each cylinder must be secured upright with a valve plug firmly fitted, and it should be removed from the vehicle as soon as you reach your destination.

Transport no more than two LPG cylinders in a vehicle at any one time. Keep them upright and secure, close the valves firmly and plug them where possible. Preferably carry them in an openair cargo area and do not leave them unnecessarily in an enclosed vehicle.
