EMMA AND ROWAN
MDC XT15-PT owners Emma and Rowan have given their van more than a few personal touches. Let’ s start inside. First, the Temu tile. That’ s right: for a few dollars, Emma sourced plastic tiles from Temu to stick to the kitchen and bathroom wall for an easy, effective splashback.
Rowan, meanwhile, made a timber box with a side-hinged lid that sits on a bedside table, providing additional bedside storage space, but their quest to improve their bedroom storage space didn’ t end there: they added ply shelving to the open wardrobe, which they feel makes the space more useful.
Emma and Rowan fitted this checkerplate extension to their van to act as a mounting point for their longer awning. It also provides protection from sideways-driven rain when cooking outside.
Now, Emma and Rowan also see the wisdom of having plenty of space to hang clothes to dry inside the van when travelling between destinations. However, rather than mounting a simple rail to the ceiling, they sourced a collapsible washing line – readily available from Bunnings among other places. They screwed it to the aluminium extrusion above the nearside bedroom window and it looks like it has always belonged there. It’ s neat and presentable when folded away, and it takes literally five seconds to unfold. It’ s the sort of device that I could readily see being fitted to the inside of a caravan as standard … In fact, some manufacturers already fit this very clothesline to the outside of their vans.
