Our next stop was in St Lawrence. It was a very long drive made even longer by the massive roadworks. We must have driven through 20-plus kilometres of roadworks. I’ m a positive thinker, so as annoying as roadworks are, they are better than no roads!
We set-up, off-grid, in the St Lawrence Recreational Reserve. They ask for a donation of $ 15.50 a night – it’ s worth every cent. The grounds are tidy, the amenities are great and we spent the evening filling in the census online! Sadly the St Lawrence Wetlands were a bit dry!
On our way to our next stop, we stopped at the Sugar Shed in Sarina. You can do a tour but the timing didn’ t suit us. On our way back to our van, we called into the museum. It was great. I didn’ t know Vegemite had been made there for 20 years before production was moved to Victoria! Plus, a past resident had given his enormous, amazing, collection of bugs and butterflies to the museum.
Have you heard of Rowallan Park? We hadn’ t until Karen at Rosedale told us about it. We followed the directions, and the last bit has you on a dirt road used by the farmers. At the end of that is the Scout Park, with eight powered sites and heaps of unpowered sites. If you want a powered site and one is there, you take it. If there isn’ t one, but the next day someone pulls off a powered site, you can get it – if you are quick! Your donation is based on powered or unpowered, and there’ s no forward booking.
