ALISON’ S SECOND FAREWELL TOUR
We talked to a couple who go there every year for about three weeks – I can understand why. It was wonderful. The amenities are unisex, there’ s an awesome bike ride for anyone with the skills and a bike, and heaps of room to enjoy a walk. We did a quick trip into Mackay and it’ s typical of so many places, closed shops in the middle of open ones.
We went to Eungella to see the views and the national park. On the way, we passed Dame Nellie Melba’ s old house, which now looks like a café. The drive up the hill was very steep. There were waterfalls along the road, which coincided with the grids. A very practical way to avoid flooding! When we got to Eungella, we went to the viewing platform and couldn’ t see a thing. The local trees were in the way!
So we made our way to Sky Window View, which has a walkway around a hillside with excellent viewing platforms. Going back to Eungella, we found the Eungella Breakaway for a homemade sandwich and homemade Ice cream( vanilla for me, rum and raisin for Peter). Well worth a stop.
We saw the signs for Finch Hatton Gorge but didn’ t get to it. Maybe another day – who knows!
