INTERVIEWING GERRY RYAN

This one happened very recently. As you’ d know, he have our own podcast, Tow & Tell, in which we tackle issues of importance to the RV industry and lifestyle. But there was one guest I’ d wanted to interview for a long time: Gerry Ryan, the founder of Jayco.

His contribution to the scene in Australia is unparalleled, and of course he is known for his charitable contributions too. But what makes the man tick? What drove him from building his first camper in a chook shed to developing the largest RV manufacturing company in the country?

To have the opportunity to get a little beneath the skin of arguably the most influential person in this industry – a person whose career has taken him from the Melbourne Cup to working with Steven Spielberg – signalled to me that rather than fall like a sack of potatoes, GoRV has gone from strength to strength.

Will we be around in another 10 years? I hope so. One can only wonder what our caravans will look like then, not to mention the all-electric self-driving cars that will be towing them for us …
