TANGO FALLOUT
The Winters sold their Maibu caravan in order to buy a van from Tango that would better suit their off-grid lifestyle .
“ I wrote a firm email directly to Sarah ( Horter ) explaining our position and that we needed to be given a date as we were bleeding money waiting for this van , and that we were feeling really disappointed by the process . I received a call from Tango ’ s business development manager saying he had just started and taken everything over and would get back to me as soon as possible . He then emailed saying that he ’ d spoken to the manufacturer and our van was next in line for production , that it was a priority and would be three weeks ( pending manufacturing delays ). He ’ d spoken to Sarah and Tango would like to compensate us for our displacement . We then booked our final holiday rental in Agnes Waters for two weeks , after which we would start driving down to Melbourne to pick up our van .”
REALITY SINKS IN
As the family waited , Ali would email Tango daily in search of an update , a photo of the van being built , or anything that would alleviate the nagging feeling that something wasn ’ t right .
“ That ’ s when the Facebook group Tango Caravans Owners & Victims was created and lots of stories started coming out . Some people then received an email from Sarah stating that she would be closing for two days to get on top of things , though we never got this email .”
Two days later , the Winters , along with plenty of other Tango customers who ’ d paid either a deposit or the full amount learned that the business had gone into liquidation . The heartbreak , the disappointment and the confusion from customers was palpable in the Facebook group .
