But never fear as there are loads of other options ! The website Hip Camp is the first one that comes to mind as there are plenty of properties available that offer much more space than a packed caravan park . You might also avoid the lengthy minimum night restrictions .
Another option is a property or house-sit . These are becoming increasing common for people travelling longer and wanting to avoid the holiday chaos altogether . Check out Facebook groups such as House Sitting Australia .
Lastly , caravan parks ( for the most part ) are unable to refund bookings at this time of year , so people cancelling do occasionally advertise for people to pick up theirs . Again , keep an eye out on the Facebook groups ( Caravanning with Kids Australia is a good one for this ).
A festive season on the road is about spending time together .
BUYING IN ADVANCE
It ’ s not always an option when you ’ re caravanning …
At home , you ’ d have the luxury of buying well in advance ( perhaps even picking up a Black Friday deal or two ) and storing gifts in a multitude of hiding places . Unfortunately , in a caravan it ’ s a little more restricted . If you ’ ve got room in your camping setup , shopping ahead might be an option , depending on where you plan to be located . Work out where stores are in relation to your itinerary and if it comes to it , go with a ‘ need ’ gift from a big department store rather than something exotic .
But for those living on the road like us , finding space is a little trickier . Our caravan is chockers and any extra items take up both weight capacity and premium space . Our plan is to do a somewhat lastminute dash . We ’ re also opting for smaller , lighter and non-powerhungry gifts , perfect for caravanning . Bonus points if they ’ re pool / water friendly !
