The vehicle ’ s 9in infotainment system , which is compatible with both Android and Apple Car Play , also shows the tyre pressures , along with an inclinometer and Terrain Command 4WD modes . I have found the touchscreen to be intuitive and easy to use . Of course , it ’ s equipped with satnav , the controls for the ADAS safety features , and more . No complaints here . In fact , the entire dash setup is modern , clean and intuitive . If I was to quibble over anything , it ’ s the old-style handbrake . I personally have no issue with it … but in such an otherwise fancy vehicle , one wonders if a pushbutton brake would be called for .
When the third-gen D-MAX was launched in late 2020 , it came with an all-new suite of safety features collectively known as IDAS , but this vehicle added numerous other intelligent features that might just prove life-saving . First , we have a new 3D stereo camera scanning the road ahead and to the sides for obstacles , with wider peripheral vision and depth perception , and a much greater field of view than before .
I also have come to appreciate the intelligent adaptive cruise control , which is calibrated specifically for the Australian market . It uses speed zone data identified by its Traffic Sign Recognition system – which includes overhead and gantry signs – and assists in maintaining a safe and legal speed , all with cruise control still active . It works well .
